Affordability
Teresa believes that the cost of living has risen to unsustainable levels for many Californians. Our state is home to some of the nation’s most expensive housing, utilities and health care. As a city, regional and state leader, she has kept costs low locally and supported accommodating more housing. In the State Assembly, Teresa will fight to lower costs and incentivize housing construction in a responsible way, so young adults, working families and our aging population can stay and thrive in California.

Safety
Teresa believes that we all deserve safe, crime-free neighborhoods and quick responses to emergencies. In Carlsbad, she has partnered with law enforcement, fire, and public works to restructure staff and funding to focus on prevention and improve response times. She supported Prop 36 to crack down on repeat thefts and drug offenses, offering rehabilitation when appropriate. In the Assembly, she will fight for public safety and our first responders, so they have the tools they need to protect our residents, public spaces, coastal communities, and businesses.

Environment
As an environmental champion she has worked to ensure that Carlsbad meets its goal of 100% renewable energy by 2035, by establishing a sustainability commission, drastically reducing single-use plastics, establishing a new community garden, forging innovative water exchange agreements and more. She believes that clean energy is affordable energy. In the Assembly, she will proactively strengthen our infrastructure resiliency, safeguard our natural resources, and fight for clean air, clean water, and for cost-effective clean renewable energy for all Californians.
Meet Teresa.
In 2020, Teresa Acosta was elected to the newly-drawn Carlsbad City Council District 4, winning over 56% of the final vote which established it as a Democratic-held seat from its inception. She was handily re-elected in 2024.
Dedicated to giving back to her community through her passion for public service, Teresa brings over 20 years of successful experience in public policy and inter-governmental collaboration to the Carlsbad City Council. Her specific areas of expertise include: sustainability, the environment, infrastructure, public safety, and supporting small businesses.
As an elected official, small business owner, daughter of a retired public school teacher, and as a proud mom with a close intergenerational family, Teresa has first-hand knowledge of what is working for everyday Californians, and what is not. This is why she wants to take her experience to the next level in Sacramento.
